Representative DutiesStudent Assistant I – Entry level/Semi-skilled
Work is under immediate supervision. Work assignments typically involve standardized duties of a routine and repetitive nature. Work assignments may include the use of special equipment, software applications, or tools per an established procedure. The supervisor has responsibility for the assignment of work, the flow of work, production level, and provision of proper instructions.
Student Assistant II – Intermediate/Advanced
Work is under general supervision. Work objectives are set but methods of performing tasks are left up to the employee, with specialized training on the job. Work assignments are varied and less routine, involving moderate responsibility. Work may involve access to sophisticated data systems and confidential information requiring considerable training. The supervisor has responsibility for assignment of work, but less control over flow and instruction.
Jobs may require moderate independent judgment, analysis, and decision‑making skills; must have a minimum of one year of experience in the same student assistant assignment.
Student Assistant III – Specialist/Lead
Work is under general supervision. Work objectives are set but methods are left up to the employee. Work assignments involve a broad variety of skills and tasks requiring considerable training. Jobs require independent judgment and decision‑making. Students at this level may direct work of lower‑level student employees; must have a minimum of two years of experience in the same student assistant assignment.

- Ability to balance work and studies.
- Students must be at least part‑time with enrollment in a minimum of 6 units at one or a combination of the three colleges within the Coast Community College District (OCC, GWC, CCC) to be eligible.
- Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to diversity and equity (D.E.I.A.) in the community college student population.
Student Assistants may not exceed 19.5 working hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. They may work a maximum of 28 hours per week outside of these semesters.
Student Assistants are prohibited from being employed by the District in any other capacity during the same fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
Regular attendance is an essential job function; failure to meet attendance requirements may preclude continued employment.
The holder of this position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with related policies.
Employment is contingent upon verification of class schedule, background verification, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees.
Student Assistants are at‑will employees, have no entitlement rights to any position in the District, and are not eligible for benefits.
