Position Summary
The Department of Music at Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for its General Music Adjunct Faculty Pool. This pool supports the university’s ongoing need for qualified adjunct instructors to teach a variety of general music, worship arts, and music education related courses, as departmental needs arise. Courses may serve Music majors, Liberal Studies majors, and non‑majors preparing for careers in education, ministry, or related fields.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong musicianship, effective pedagogy, and a commitment to integrating faith and learning in a Christ‑centered academic environment. Appointments are made on a course‑by‑course, semester‑by‑semester basis, as needed.
- Teach assigned undergraduate general music courses in alignment with departmental and university learning outcomes
- Prepare syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments consistent with course objectives
- Employ engaging, student‑centered teaching methods that incorporate both theoretical and practical learning
- Assess student learning through exams, projects, performances, and/or demonstrations as appropriate
- Maintain regular communication with students and provide timely feedback
- Collaborate with Music Department faculty and staff as appropriate
- Integrate a faith‑based approach to teaching consistent with Vanguard University’s mission
- Master’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a closely related field (Doctorate preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in general music instruction and pedagogy
- Experience teaching at the college or university level preferred
- Knowledge of standards‑based music education, where applicable
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices
- Ability to support and articulate Vanguard University’s Christian mission
Salary:
The following salary range reflects compensation paid for a 3‑unit course (144 total hours) and varies based on the faculty member’s highest earned degree. Total compensation is based on the number of courses taught and corresponding units for each course. $3,120 to $3,720 per course.
