Program Coordinator-STEM

Orange Coast College (OCC) is seeking equity-minded individuals for a classified employee role as a Program Coordinator-STEM under the Instructional Services Wing, as part of the Planetarium.

Summary:

Oversees the primary functions of the day-to-day operations of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Program. Plans and coordinates activities and functions for the STEM grant-funded program. The Program Coordinator – STEM ensures the goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations, or other specifications related to the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions, and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following types of duties, as assigned:

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees the daily operation of the STEM Program and grant activities and events. Develops efficient and thorough processes for the implementation of the STEM Program.
  • Works closely with the administrator in the STEM Program development, implementation, and management of the program requirements.
  • Oversees, prepares, and maintains compilation and maintenance of statistical data and records related to STEM grant; prepares reports, records on program activities, progress status, or other reports for management or outside agencies.
  • Collaborates with functional departments in the development, compilation, and distribution of promotional materials such as newsletters, brochures, or flyers; coordinates the process from development through printing and distribution.
  • Coordinates the logistics of grant activities, events, in-service trainings, and meetings to promote STEM Program awareness throughout the college and student population; maintains and coordinates schedules and calendars of events hosted or conducted by the STEM Program.
  • Ensures compliance with District, state, and federal policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, and generally accepted technical principles.
  • Maintains STEM Program budget expenditures; prepares reports as required by the college and state. Provides updates to the administrator and Director, Fiscal Services, on concerns related to budget expenses or funding issues.
  • Interprets District and college policies and procedures pertaining to grant funding of special programs for student success.
  • Assists students in the selection of career inventories for STEM career exploration and decision making in concert with counselors and instructors to define educational pathways leading to completion of STEM career goals.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to describe and publicize the STEM Program, events, activities, and services; prepares and disseminates web-based and print publications, newsletters, correspondence, and other materials describing the STEM Program, events, activities, and services.
  • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data for assessing program effectiveness and recommends changes to encourage program growth and student satisfaction.
  • Serves as the STEM Program liaison, serving on various college task forces, committees, and work groups to bring awareness of the STEM Program throughout the college community.
  • Attends conferences and workshops relating to STEM programs to generate new ideas, enhance students' experience, and support the mission and vision of the college.
  • Provides work direction and guidance for assigned staff and student workers to ensure student needs are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
  • Required to abide by all District policies and procedures, including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics.
