Substitute Para educator

ACCESS is a WASC-accredited public educational program offering diverse and unique school options for students throughout Orange County. The program includes Community Day School and Independent Study/Contract Learning, both of which operate year-round. Community Day School serves students in grades 7–12, providing a daily classroom setting where teachers deliver small-group instruction to facilitate learning. Independent Study/Contract Learning serves students in grades 9–12, where students meet one-on-one with a teacher for at least 60 minutes each week and are required to complete 20 hours of homework weekly.

We are seeking a dynamic and service-oriented Substitute Para educator to provide educational support to at-promise youth by tutoring in assigned subject areas, reinforcing class lessons, improving skill levels, and assisting students with classwork and homework assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist teachers in maintaining student academic and attendance records. Address parent inquiries regarding their child's attendance. Support the school site by checking in students and visitors, ensuring they sign in, answering questions, and assisting with clerical tasks such as phone calls, filing, and organizing work areas. Substitute Para educator positions are located at various sites across Orange County and may be assigned based on organizational needs.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
One year of experience working with children in an organized setting, AND one of the following:
Completion of at least two years of study at a college or university; OR An Associate of Arts degree; OR Satisfactory completion of an approved para educator test; OR Demonstration of a rigorous standard of quality through a State or local assessment including knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.
