Position: Part Time Faculty - GED Preparation - Interdisciplinary Basic Skills (Noncredit)

Definition

The Coast Community College District is a multi‑college district that includes Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College. The three colleges offer programs in transfer, general education, occupational/technical education, community services and student support services. Collectively, the colleges enroll more than 60,000 students each year in over 300 degree and certificate programs. Since its founding in 1947, the district has earned a reputation as one of the leading community college districts in the United States.

Performance

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Teach all scheduled classes, including day, evening, weekend, online, and/or off‑campus courses.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
  • Apply sensitive, inclusive teaching practices to support diverse students.
  • Prepare lessons and materials that reflect the district’s commitment to equity and access.
Part‑Time GED Preparation Faculty

Assist students in language arts and mathematics through individualized or group instruction. Focus on test‑taking strategies and fundamentals. Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes.

Qualifications and Physical Demands
  • Minimum:
    Bachelor’s degree in any social science, humanities, mathematics, natural science, or liberal studies (depending on the course).
  • Evidence of sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds and the ability to manage classroom environments effectively.
  • Desirable:
    Recent community college or lower‑division teaching experience and expertise in subject area to be taught.
Conditions of Employment

Employment is part‑time and temporary, contingent upon verification of employment history, background checks, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Positions are filled on an as‑needed basis and may require instructors to live within commuting distance to Orange County.

  • Regular attendance is essential; inability to meet attendance requirements may result in termination.
  • The holder of this position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with district policies and Title IX.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Essential functions include classroom instruction and occasional duties in laboratories or computer labs.
  • Small to moderate physical activity such as standing and walking may be required.
