Overview
Geosyntec offers an opportunity for an Experienced Environmental / Geoenvironmental / Remediation Engineer to lead and deliver investigation and cleanup projects including in situ remediation for chlorinated solvents and emerging contaminants such as PFAS. The role supports waste containment and landfill engineering projects, applies sustainability tools, and serves a diverse private and public sector client base. The position is based in Costa Mesa, California;
remote consideration may be given.
- Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and schedule adherence, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
- Perform and manage contaminated site assessments and remedy evaluation (investigation work plans, data evaluation, feasibility studies, treatability studies, removal action work plans, remedy design, and implementation).
- Support solid waste and geoenvironmental engineering assignments such as landfill expansion investigations, waste containment system design/analysis and permitting.
- Apply sustainability and resiliency tools (quantitative sustainability assessments, ISO-compliant life cycle assessment, carbon/ GHG accounting).
- Contribute to conceptual and quantitative modeling efforts (contaminant fate and transport, remedy performance, computational geomechanics).
- Perform and manage pilot and bench‑scale programs for soil, soil vapor, and groundwater technologies.
- Prepare remediation action plans, technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, and proposals.
- Manage and mentor junior staff and subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and agency interfacing.
- Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.
- Support business development, staff development, and mentoring in line with sell‑manage‑do model.
- Conduct fieldwork including multimedia sampling, sediment sampling, drilling oversight, and remediation system operations.
- Travel to client or company sites as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, geotechnical, or chemical engineering. (required)
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or professional registration (P.E.) or ability to obtain within one year. (preferred)
- Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification. (preferred)
- At least 5 years of direct environmental consulting experience or equivalent experience. (required)
- Experience with environmental site assessment and remedial investigation/feasibility study programs. (required)
- Experience with landfill design/permitting and solid waste regulatory programs. (preferred)
- Experience with ISO-compliant life cycle assessments, carbon/ GHG accounting, or sustainability assessments. (preferred)
- Experience with in situ remediation technologies and/or contaminants such as chlorinated solvents, LNAPL/DNAPL, and PFAS. (preferred)
- Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
- Experience producing clear technical reports and regulatory submittals; strong technical writing and QA/QC skills. (required)
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and travel. (required)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Active participation in professional associations or local technical committees. (preferred)
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training with current refreshers. (preferred)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. (required)
Typical base salary: $97,255 – $126,430 (Costa Mesa, California). Additional compensation shall be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
