Overview

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company focused on advancing military capabilities through cutting‑edge AI, autonomy, and sensor fusion. The company is looking for an Instrumentation Engineer to join the Omen team at its Costa Mesa headquarters. Omen is a lightweight autonomous air vehicle that delivers runway independence and mission flexibility for both defense and civilian applications.

Responsibilities
  • Use ‘Test’ as a design tool to accelerate component, system, and subsystem maturation from bench tests to production‑representative Vehicle, Mission, and Support Systems.
  • Specify, build, and commission end‑to‑end physical and electrical data measurement and collection systems for integration environments, including sensors, transducers, data acquisition devices, and telemetry.
  • Design and assemble test racks, breakout boxes, harnesses, and other test equipment.
  • Instrument highly representative Hardware In the Lab (HIL) and Hardware In The Loop (HITL) environments, including high‑voltage, high‑power hybrid powertrain testbeds.
  • Support flight test and data collection for crewed and uncrewed surrogate platforms (Group 3 UAS).
  • Define, install, calibrate, and maintain ground and flight test instrumentation and telemetry for prototype and production‑representative Omen Systems.
  • Apply a strong safety mindset in experimental environments to prevent harm to team members.
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRR) to ensure safe and efficient test execution.
  • Champion configuration control of instrumentation across all fixed and flying integration environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Eight or more years of experience in integration, test, instrumentation, and telemetry.
  • Design, build, and operate robust instrumentation systems for real‑time and post‑test observation of loads, temperatures, pressures, software messages, and accelerations in ground and flight test environments; experience with HIL/HITL or IRON BIRD environments is an advantage.
  • Vehicle/System‑level flight test instrumentation experience with Group 3 or larger uncrewed and autonomous platforms.
  • Familiarity with instrumenting and working safely with high‑voltage/power systems.
  • Proficiency in specifying, selecting, installing, and calibrating a wide range of sensors, including strain gauges, string potentiometers, Hall‑Effect sensors, thermocouples, and non‑contact measurement systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of electronics, communications, and integration troubleshooting, with ability to operate diagnostics instruments (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.) and debug common protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, and Serial.
  • Competence with I/O signal converters, data acquisition and logging systems (NI DAQ, C‑W Acra, etc.), telemetry radios (C‑W MATS, etc.), and visualization/processing tools (NI LabVIEW, C‑W IADS, Grafana, Nominal, Flexlogger, Canapy, etc.).
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and an excellent communicator for diverse audiences.
  • A commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance in the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia.

US Salary Range: $146,000 – $208,000 USD (base salary only; equity and additional compensation may be offered). The company provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health, recovery, and other employee‑centered resources, largely at little to no cost to employees.
