About the RoleWe're hiring a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to own the data platform powering mission critical hardware operations s isn't analytics work or dashboard engineering — it's core backend infrastructure that physical systems depend on in real time.
You'll be building the pipelines, streaming systems, and data lake architecture that surface live operational data from factory floors and hardware systems, with sub-minute latency requirements and zero tolerance for downtime. The work is roughly 70% net new platform build and 30% hardening and scaling what already exists.
Expect 60% hands-on engineering and 40% architecture, stakeholder alignment, and strategic planning. At Staff level this extends to full platform ownership and technical leadership across the team.
What You'll Do- Design and build real-time streaming pipelines handling telemetry and operational data from physical hardware systems
- Own data lake architecture and lead modernization efforts
- Build backend services on top of the data platform serving engineering and analytics teams
- Deliver sub-minute latency data pipelines to operational displays and factory floor systems
- Own reliability, observability, and SLAs across the platform
- Drive architectural decisions independently, reducing bottlenecks for the engineering org
- Collaborate closely with hardware, manufacturing, and analytics engineering teams
- Support secure deployments across constrained and sensitive environments
- 6+ years of software and data platform engineering experience (Senior) or 8-10+ years (Staff)
- Strong Python and SQL
- Java or Scala
- Kafka or Flink
- Proven experience building and owning data lake architecture
- Real-time streaming and batch data systems experience
- Strong distributed systems and backend architecture fundamentals
- US Citizen or Green Card holder
- Hardware, IoT, sensor, or telemetry data background
- Infrastructure as code / Terraform
- Experience in secure or constrained deployment environments
- Autonomous vehicle, aerospace, manufacturing, or defense adjacent background
- Work on genuinely hard infrastructure problems powering real world hardware operations — not ad optimisation or engagement metrics
- High ownership from day one — this role shapes platform architecture and roadmap direction, not just implements tickets
- Join a company scaling at extraordinary speed with strong government contract backing and multi-year runway
- Immense scope for growth — internal mobility and expanded ownership based on impact
- Relocation support available for the right candidate
- Competitive compensation with RSU equity on a 4-year grant
- Work alongside some of the most capable engineers in defense technology
