Position Overview
As a Monitoring Engineer, you will work in an Agile software development or operations team, supporting monitoring tools such as Extra Hop, Splunk, Thousand Eyes, etc. You will collaborate with engineering, applications, and system owners to clarify monitoring requirements and business needs, and provide direction to support self‑sufficiency using these tools.
What You’ll Do- Design, support, and maintain a large enterprise observability platform.
- Support JVM and component‑level monitoring in non‑prod environments, contributing to development and testing.
- Document processes and procedures, system configurations, and manage revisions and patches for supporting software and hardware.
- Provide engineering, consultative collaboration (training), and hands‑on tool support.
- Analyze large volumes of security data to detect nefarious activity.
- Collaborate with IT Architecture to understand future system state.
- Acquire, configure, test, implement, and troubleshoot secure network management systems.
- 3–5 years of network engineering experience with emphasis on enterprise monitoring and observability tools.
- Client‑focused and collaborates with engineers, developers, and infrastructure teams to provide reliable and dynamic monitoring services.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SNMP, ICMP and related protocols.
- Understanding of basic routing and interactions among routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, and security systems.
- Solid knowledge of SNMP (all versions), Net Flow, sFlow, NMS tools, Solar Winds Orion, Stat Seeker.
- Ability to decode and understand Wireshark captures.
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Experience with Agile approaches (SCRUM, Kanban, TDD) and methodologies.
- Experience or understanding of scaled Agile (SAFe, LeSS, DaD) is a plus.
- Experience with Jenkins, Ansible, or related tools is a plus.
- Certifications such as ITIL, CCNA, AWS, CISSP, DOD, HP, RHCE, ITOM, ITSM, MCTS are a plus.
- Strong analytical skills to solve large‑scale problems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent knowledge.
