JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT

John Wayne Airport (JWA) serves approximately 11.8 million annual passengers and is a major cornerstone of Orange County. The County of Orange owns and operates the airport. The airport includes commercial flights, general aviation, and various services. It provides an environment of high volume, 24/7 operations.

DIVISION

The Innovation and Technology Division (ITD) comprises the Infrastructure and Service Teams. The Infrastructure Team supports network infrastructure; the Service Team maintains the Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) and end‑user support. ITD consults all airport divisions, manages vendor contracts, and recommends technologies.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Information Technologist II will be responsible for primary solution development for systems utilized across desktops and mobile devices for office staff, teleworkers, and field staff.

Duties include:

  • Server infrastructure maintenance and configuration.
  • Adherence to ITIL standards and processes.
  • Managing mobile offices and remote Internet connectivity solutions.
  • Oversight of agency PC images and related issues.
  • Coordinate stakeholders and vendors to ensure program compliance.
  • Coordinate image automated distribution.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance of agency information policies.
  • Ensure consistency with County technology direction.
  • Primary coordination point for resolving technology issues and providing solutions between external products and applications.

Work Hours:

This position requires scheduled hours outside standard business hours and participation in an on‑call rotation. May include late‑night, early‑morning, holiday, and weekend work to support 24/7/365 operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES

The ideal incumbent will possess a minimum of three years of experience in an enterprise environment performing systems configuration and deployment, analysis, maintenance, and administration for technologies such as network‑attached storage, mobile device management, automated deployments, Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022 or newer, Cloud IaaS and PaaS solutions, enterprise detection and response, virtualization/hyper‑converged infrastructure, and Windows 11 workstations. Experience in a government or highly regulated environment is highly desirable.

College‑level education or training directly related to the competencies may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience at a rate of three semester units per month of experience. Additional education beyond a bachelor's degree may replace another year of experience.

Additional core competencies include:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain OS images, application packages, and updates through Intune and Configuration Manager.
  • Support enterprise hardware from Dell and HP.
  • Implement enterprise security best practices, encryption, MFA, zero trust, auditing, digital forensics, data retention, risk assessment, penetration testing, and third‑party auditing.
  • Follow information security compliance standards and auditing processes, including PCI‑DSS, TSA, and NIST.
  • Utilize cybersecurity tools: SIEM, SOAR, EDR, IAM, PAM, vulnerability management, Web Proxy Firewall, Email Security.
  • Install, configure, and support Windows Server 2019 or newer; develop Group Policies.
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Power Shell or Python.
  • Knowledge of Service Now or similar ITSM and change management platforms.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of department processes, procedures, and reports.
  • Manage MDM solutions, including Apple Business Manager and Intune.
  • Work with virtualization, cloud, and converged technologies: vSphere, Microsoft 365, Azure.
  • Plan and implement disaster recovery, incident response, and business continuity plans.
