POSITION SUMMARYThe Production Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining production schedules that align customer demand, material availability, and production capacity to ensure on-time delivery. This role partners with production, warehouse, inventory, and sales teams to coordinate work orders, maintain accurate Estimated Ship Dates (ESDs), monitor material availability, and support efficient production operations through effective planning and ERP/MRP data management.
This is a full-time, on-site position. Candidates must be able to commute to and work from our Costa Mesa, CA office Monday through Friday.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Production Planning & Scheduling- Develop, analyze, and maintain daily and weekly production schedules within the ERP/MRP planning system, balancing customer demand, material availability, capacity constraints, and delivery commitments.
- Review system-generated planning recommendations and take appropriate action to support production flow and on-time delivery performance.
- Prioritize production orders to meet customer delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure work is completed according to schedule.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to address changing priorities or material constraints.
- Identify production bottlenecks and recommend schedule adjustments to maintain workflow and on-time delivery.
- Calculate production, quality inspection, and packing timelines to establish accurate Estimated Ship Dates (ESDs).
- Review ERP/MRP material requirements and inventory availability to ensure components are available to support scheduled production.
- Develop contingency plans for production delays, including changes in supplier lead times or material availability.
- Maintain accurate Estimated Ship Dates (ESDs) within the ERP/MRP system by monitoring material availability, production capacity, and schedule adherence.
- Communicate ESD updates and schedule changes to Sales, Customer Service, and other internal stakeholders.
- Monitor, release, and manage production work orders within the ERP/MRP system to ensure accurate scheduling, timely processing, and delivery performance.
- Maintain planning system integrity by ensuring work order, routing, and scheduling information is accurate and up to date.
- Release and track sample orders to support customer and sales requirements.
- Correct or reopen improperly closed work orders as needed to maintain system accuracy.
- Ensure work orders are prioritized appropriately to support production goals and customer commitments.
- Utilize ERP/MRP planning outputs to identify material shortages, excess inventory, and supply risks that may impact production schedules or customer commitments.
- Collaborate with purchasing and inventory teams to resolve system-generated material exceptions and maintain schedule continuity.
- Support efficient material flow to minimize production interruptions.
- Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy by identifying planning or material issues affecting production.
- Maintain and optimize ERP/MRP planning parameters, including lead times, planning policies, safety stock levels, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Generate and analyze ERP/MRP planning reports to evaluate capacity utilization, schedule attainment, inventory performance, and delivery metrics.
- Monitor production schedules, work order status, inventory levels, and planning metrics to support on-time delivery.
- Analyze production and inventory data to identify trends and improve planning accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, production flow, and operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support purchasing, logistics, and production workflows.
- Effectively leveraging the ERP/MRP planning system to manage production schedules, capacity constraints, material availability, and customer delivery commitments.
- Maintaining accurate planning, inventory, and work order data that supports reliable production execution.
- Maintaining reliable Estimated Ship Dates (ESDs) through proactive planning and communication.
