High Needs/Resource Special Ed Paraprofessional at Oltman Middle School.

Hours per Day & Schedule6.25 hours per day, 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with ½ hour unpaid lunch.
Pay & BenefitsStarting base pay $22.25 per hour. Additional $0.50 per hour after achieving Highly Qualified status (2‑ or 4‑year degree, 60 semester credits, or completion of Para Pro). Internal candidates must meet criteria at the time of application; external candidates must meet by May 31 2026.

Position SummaryThis role provides instructional and/or behavioral support to special education students in high‑needs programs under the direction of a licensed special education teacher.
Primary Job Functions- Consult daily with licensed special education teacher regarding responsibilities.
- Assist in implementing district policies and procedures.
- Support students academically (reading, writing, math) by implementing curriculum, adapting strategies and materials.
- Assist students with learning challenges, behavioral issues, and/or physical support, including toileting, eating, transitioning, lockers, lunch/recess, buses, transfers, and other activities of daily living.
- Accept work direction willingly, shift work assignments, and adapt to new assignments.
- Support licensed teacher using behavioral management techniques, including redirection and restraints when necessary; supervise during cooling off, monitor and document behavior, implement positive behavior support.
- Collect and record student data and communicate information to teacher(s) and other staff as directed.
- Provide services per licensed teacher’s direction, respecting role distinctions.
- Maintain confidentiality and boundaries with students, families, and staff.
- Maintain fairness, confidentiality, respect, and equity for all students, staff, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to meet District 833 Highly Qualified requirements.
- Competencies required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
- Ability to reinforce math, reading, and writing skills in elementary and/or secondary classrooms.
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds.
- Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.
- Model appropriate behavior, neat appearance, and proper grammar for all students.
- Self‑directed and able to organize small‑group reading and math activities with provided resources and assessments.
- Computer literacy: email, Internet navigation, Microsoft Word.
- Pass Paraprofessional fitness‑for‑duty tests.
- Prompt, regular, reliable attendance.
- Active participation in district‑sponsored training.
- Positive communication with students, parents, co‑workers, supervisors, and community.
- Appreciation of diversity in all interactions.
- Training and experience in behavioral management techniques.
- Knowledge of basic academics and behavior characteristics of elementary and/or secondary students.
- Certification in first aid and CPR.
- Prior experience with students with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities.
- Knowledge of terminology related to special education services and support.
- Prior experience using behavioral management techniques.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
