Position SummaryThe Program Navigator will provide personalized support to adult English Language Learners (ELLs) enrolled in English language acquisition and civics education classes. This role is essential in guiding participants through their learning journey, ensuring they make measurable progress in both language proficiency and civics knowledge. The Navigator will serve as a coach, mentor, and resource connector, helping learners overcome barriers, stay engaged, and achieve their educational and career goals.
Key Responsibilities- Student Support & Guidance
- Provide individualized assistance to learners using tools such as English Unlocked, Learning Upgrade, and the American Civics Course.
- Help participants set and track progress toward personal learning goals.
- Monitor learner attendance, participation, and progress, providing timely interventions when needed.
- Instructional Support
- Assist instructors in reinforcing English language and civics curricula, particularly in workplace communication, community involvement, and U.S. government structures.
- Facilitate small-group and one-on-one learning activities as needed.
- Support learners in completing the citizenship modules via Learning Upgrade.
- Assessment & Reporting
- Conduct intake, pre-, and post-assessments for English language and civics learning.
- Track learner performance using standardized tests (e.g., CASAS) and program-specific benchmarks.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and completion of civics modules.
- Wraparound Support
- Identify learner barriers (transportation, scheduling, technology access, etc.) and connect participants with resources.
- Provide encouragement and motivational support to sustain student engagement and persistence.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with the Project Coordinator, Program Manager, and instructional staff to ensure program alignment with grant goals.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development.
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working with adult learners, English language learners, or diverse populations
- Knowledge of English language acquisition strategies and/or civics education preferred
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to motivate and support learners from varied backgrounds
- Competence in using educational technology tools (e.g., Learning Upgrade, online learning platforms)
- Multi-lingual desired
- At least 75% of participants demonstrate measurable improvement in English language proficiency and civics understanding (as evidenced by assessments and test scores)
- Consistent learner engagement, reflected in strong attendance and participation rates
- Successful completion of citizenship and civics-related modules by targeted learners
