Assists the principal in leading all aspects of the school’s vision, instructional program, and daily operations in an equitable manner and in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines. Provides collaborative instructional leadership focused on improving teaching, learning, and student outcomes while fostering a positive, inclusive school culture. Partners with staff, students, families, and the community to build systems that support academic success, attendance, behavior, and student well-being.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, instructional coaching and feedback, supervision and evaluation, MTSS, staffing, parent and community relations, student discipline, school safety, attendance, and fiscal and facilities management. Serves as acting principal in the principal’s absence.
Primary Function
This position requires a strong understanding of K-5 standards and how to ensure effective instruction and learning. It is highly recommended that the candidate have experience in high-needs behavior support and English Language Development (ELD) programs. Putting together an effective instructional schedule including classroom teachers, specialists and educational assistants is a must. The job requires the ability to analyze and offer alternative solutions to issues as they arise.
The position has supervisory responsibility for planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the quality and quantity of work of licensed and classified professionals. Frequently meets with teachers, school psychologists and other educational personnel to lead, influence, motivate and monitor the goals and objectives of the school operation. Ensures compliance with District and Board goals.
- Serves as an instructional leader and assists in the management of a K-5 School facility.
- Assists in leading school curriculum alignment, planning and implementation, and continuous improvement through collaborative professional learning communities and data-informed decision making.
- Works closely with the school staff in identifying educational and instructional needs, including instructional technology, equitable pedagogy, inclusive instructional practices, Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and developing plans to improve the instructional process.
- Supports all staff in the development of Student Learning Objectives (SLO’s) and in the experiences and strategies to achieve those objectives, including culturally responsive and evidence-based practices.
- Confers and consults with school and district personnel, parents, students, and community partners regarding academic, behavioral, attendance, social-emotional and inclusive student supports, using restorative and collaborative approaches whenever appropriate.
- Uses the district’s licensed and classified evaluation system to coach, develop, and support all staff working at the highest level of effectiveness.
- Partners with the principal to develop coherent instructional, behavioral, and operational systems that improve outcomes for all students.
- Leads and strengthens the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and systems that foster a positive, inclusive school culture.
- Supports communication with students, parents and the community by updating the website, preparing the monthly newsletter, writing the board report and communicating with the local newspaper.
- Assumes an active and engaging role in the functions and activities of the District’s Administrative Council and other assigned committees and groups.
- Demonstrates and models the qualities of being a life-long learner, fosters collaborative professional learning communities, and inspires others to do the same.
- Coordinates student and family assistance programs with local social services and youth service agencies.
