About the RoleThe Merchandise Planning team needs a data-driven analyst to own the day-to-day mechanics of pricing across Backcountry's four banners—competitive pricing audits, markdown execution, MAP/MSRP compliance, and the reporting that powers pricing decisions.
As Pricing & Reporting Analyst
, you will work directly with the Sr. Pricing Analyst to maximize profitability through smart pricing execution. By 6–12 months, you will be running pricing operations independently, regularly making recommendations that move sell-through, margin, or working capital, and serving as the team's go‑to for AI‑augmented workflows.
This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end‑to‑end responsibility.
Key Responsibilities- Pull pricing, margin, and sales data from the data warehouse for ad hoc analysis
- Use AI tools (Claude, Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) daily to write formulas, draft SQL, automate repetitive tasks, summarize results, and accelerate your own learning
- Execute daily, weekly, and seasonal price changes across four banners, ensuring accuracy and on‑time delivery
- Monitor competitive pricing across key categories and partner brands; surface risks and opportunities to the Sr. Pricing Analyst and Buying teams
- Track MAP and MSRP compliance across the assortment, flagging and correcting violations in a timely manner
- Bring analytical judgment to pricing and strategy conversations—surface trends, audit outcomes, flag risks, and recommend pricing actions that improve sell‑through, margin, or working capital
- Build and maintain pricing reports and dashboards that Planning, Buying, and Marketing teams rely on
- Document and improve pricing processes—turn one‑off analyses into repeatable AI‑powered workflows
- Partner with Marketing on promotional pricing setup and post‑promo recaps
- Maintain a strong feedback loop with the Sr. Pricing Analyst on what is working, what is not, and where to push next

- 3–5 years of analyst experience, preferably in retail, ecommerce, or a related data‑driven role
- Demonstrated daily use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar) for real work—you iterate on prompts, evaluate outputs critically, and know when AI is the right tool versus when it is not
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivots, lookups, formulas) and a strong aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
