This position teaches hands-on construction training in our Construction Technology program, preparing students for careers in residential, commercial, and industrial construction. Instruction includes blueprint reading, framing, estimating, construction materials, jobsite safety, sustainable building practices, project management, and real-world construction techniques. Students gain practical experience with tools, materials, construction methods, scheduling, and leadership skills needed to succeed in the construction management industry.
The instructor will teach at the Council Bluffs Campus as well as the BUSS Center in Missouri Valley.
This position is ideal for:
* Experienced carpenters, builders, or general contractors looking to transition into teaching
* Construction supervisors, foremen, or project managers with field experience
* Skilled trades professionals with backgrounds in residential or commercial construction
* Individuals passionate about mentoring the next generation of construction workers
This position is best suited for candidates with hands-on construction experience and may not be ideal for those with:
* Architecture-only roles without hands-on construction experience
* Engineering-only backgrounds with limited field application
* Purely academic or theoretical construction backgrounds without jobsite experience
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Teaching classroom, lab, and hands-on construction courses
* Demonstrating safe and proper use of tools, equipment, and construction methods
* Instructing students in blueprint reading, estimating, framing, materials, safety, and project management
* Supporting curriculum development and course improvement
* Assisting with student success, retention, and career readiness
* Building relationships with local contractors and industry partners
* 6000 hours of recent, documented field experience in carpentry, building trades, or construction management OR possess a combination of an associate degree in construction management and at least 3,000 hours of recent, documented field experience in carpentry, building trades, or construction management.
* Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license and good driving record
* Recent, hands-on experience in construction.
* The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
* Ability to lift up to 30lbs
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
* Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.
