Job DescriptionGreen Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill an anticipated School Counselor Consultant.

Qualifications- Master’s Degree in education, school counseling, or related field.
- Iowa instructional license with School Counselor endorsement.
- Knowledgeable about the MTSS-SEBH/PBIS framework and implementation.
General Responsibilities: Provides leadership and support related to the responsibilities and functions of the School Counselor role. This includes development and delivery of professional learning, coaching, and consultation for LEA and AEA staff. Helps ensure success for all learners. Provides appropriate resources and technical assistance to sustain an effective system of school counseling program services. Provides services that are customer-focused and based on client needs.
Provides direct counseling services to students and staff through inter‑district sharing agreements when needed. This may include serving as the assigned school counselor for one or more districts. Demonstrates flexibility in service delivery across multiple sites, schedules, and district contexts.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supports total school/community efforts to create a positive learning environment for students/children.
- Serves as liaison among LEAs, district building(s), families, and community, and collaborates with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all learners.
- Has deep knowledge of the ASCA National Model for school counselors and supports the application of the practices outlined in that model.
- Models, implements, and assesses strategies related to learning, social, emotional, and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners.
- Effectively manages responsibilities across multiple districts through shared service agreements, including scheduling, prioritization of services, and clear communication with district leadership regarding needs, capacity, and impact.
- Provides ongoing support to educational staff related to applicable rules and laws.
- Integrates research into the design of best practices.
- Provides direct services to students, including individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance aligned to academic, social/emotional, and college/career domains.
- Consults with teachers and administrators regarding best practices for classroom and building educational programs.
- Follows policies, procedures, standards, and rules in accordance with national and state laws, the Iowa Department of Education, LEAs and GHAEA, which includes, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the role of the school counselor, provides guidance, and supports the application of the School Counselor responsibilities and expectations as outlined in the Iowa Administrative Rules.
- May create, organize, and provide professional learning opportunities for school counselors, administrators, and other educators, including coaching and modeling evidence-based practices, providing resources, and support for MTSS/PBIS implementation throughout the domains of Academic, Social Emotional Behavioral Health, College and Career Readiness, and Future Ready.
- May be responsible for regular and consistent communication with school counselors within the GHAEA regional area to support networking and knowledge of relevant, updated information within the field of school counseling.
- Establishes, implements, and evaluates Agency activities in response to best practices and changing client needs.
- Uses data to develop, implement, monitor, and adapt services to help ensure effective supports.
