Registered Behavior Technician

Assists and supports teachers and Board Certified Behavior Analyst through the implementation of IEP supports, services and treatment plans for students with significant disabilities and challenging behaviors.

Essential duties must be performed on site. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Carries out treatment plans designed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or similar practitioner.
  • Assists with communication, social and daily living skills at the direction of BCBA and/or teachers.
  • Assists with individual and group instructional reinforcement, supporting students at BCBA and teachers' direction, as needed.
  • Provides direct intervention services to students in cooperation with teachers, physicians, and parents.
  • Participates in and provides input to the individual education team for the students.
  • Keeps records of student behavior progress and programs implemented to achieve desired behaviors.
  • Assists in data collection and progress monitoring.
  • Assists in providing feedback on student work.
  • Assists teachers in promoting a positive learning environment. Supports and maintains individualized behavior management plans.
  • Assists teachers with implementation of specific instructional requirements as indicated in the individual education plans for each student.
  • Assists teachers in supervision of students including, but not limited to: loading/unloading buses, lunchroom, playground, individualized settings.
  • Assists with preparation of instructional materials as needed.
  • Assists teachers with gathering data for reports and paperwork related functions as needed.
  • Assists willingly in potential Non-Violent Crisis Interventions utilizing the skills learned through CPI training in accordance within Iowa Department of Education Regulations:
    Chapter 103.
  • Assists willingly in the maintenance of student safety if student attempts elopement through skills learned through CPI training in accordance within Iowa Department of Education Regulations:
    Chapter 103.
  • Assists willingly in hygiene maintenance/toileting of students as needed.

Operates school equipment such as Chromebooks, copier, communication devices, etc.

Assists and takes direction from the Special Education Coordinator.

This position does not supervise other employees.

Required:

Registered Behavior Technician Certificate

Required:

You must have one of the following:

  • Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Possess an associates degree, or
  • Complete a para educator certificate course, or
  • Complete and pass the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) exam.

Preferred:
Experience working with young people in an educational setting.

Language Skills Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply appropriate and reasonable problem solving strategies in a variety of settings and situations.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work with all students. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Respect for the dignity of and sensitivity to all students. Ability to communicate with students, staff, parents and the school community, as directed by the teacher or administration. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.

Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students and their programs.

Knowledge and experience with computer programs and software preferred. Experience working with students with special needs on an instructional basis is preferred.
