- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in mission‑critical facility design and construction.
- 5 years of experience with mission‑critical multi‑tenant data center facilities.
- 5 years of experience in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning mechanical distribution systems from chiller to chiller.
- 5 years of experience performing mechanical system analysis with engineering software.
- 5 years of experience resolving mechanical infrastructure issues raised by cross‑functional teams.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field, or a professional engineering license.
- Experience preparing technical documentation: facility review checklists, audits, Statements of Work, and Total Cost of Ownership analysis.
- Experience with large‑capacity cooling systems, distribution units, and liquid‑cooled racks.
- Understanding of interrelated cross‑functional issues: structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, electrical, and architectural.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
Our Data Center Engineering team designs future‑proof physical infrastructure. We tackle complex topics such as power optimization and efficient, environmentally friendly facilities. You will generate ideas, communicate with senior executives, and lead implementations with facilities technicians. You will advise on compliance with codes, develop infrastructure improvements, and act as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
In this role you will develop complex mechanical systems from incoming utilities to rack‑level design. You will manage projects through due diligence, construction, commissioning, and supporting internal operations. You will provide technical leadership in a matrix organization and prepare critical documentation such as facility audits, TCO analyses, and concept design reviews.
Responsibilities- Manage mechanical system challenges across the entire project lifecycle: concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and on‑site commissioning.
- Perform technical evaluations and due diligence of market‑available multi‑tenant facilities to assess designs based on program requirements, redundancy, availability, and potential single points of failure.
- Interface closely with cross‑functional groups—including Third‑Party Data Center Operations, Energy and Land Strategy, and Front End Planning—to deliver thermal and mechanical solutions.
- Drive technical due diligence and QA/QC to reinforce standards across all regions, ensuring consistent product delivery per Google’s standards.
US base salary range: $144,000–$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Base salary is determined by role, level, and location.
