Role Summary
The Safety Specialist 2 will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and increasingly complex construction projects. The role involves conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis to support JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.
Key Role Responsibilities – Core- Conduct regular walk‑through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
- Perform safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting, and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions. Utilize internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
- Conduct project‑specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
- Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractor safety programs.
- Attend project pre‑planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety matters.
- Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees, and related activities, and chair the project safety committee.
- Assist in investigating project‑related accidents, determine root causes, and discuss recommendations for process changes to eliminate recurrence.
- Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work, and compile progress summary reports of injuries.
- Monitor the site safety incentive program.
- Apply a higher level of safety knowledge to identify complex safety issues and provide advanced abatement solutions.
- Utilize extensive knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to make project‑specific safety recommendations.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and actively contribute in meetings.
- Perform trend analysis using internal safety management systems to identify safety trends and recommend mitigation solutions.
- Provide guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for new or existing personnel.
- Assist safety leadership during insurance audits.
- Oversee more complex projects, including large or multi‑project assignments.
- Accurate and timely completion of work.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Proficiency with company safety software and tools (intermediate level).
- Recognition of hazardous situations and implementation of corrective measures.
- Ability to build and sustain relationships across teams and projects.
- Proficiency in required construction technology.
- Collaborative teamwork both internally and externally.
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health–related field (preferred).
- Equivalent relevant experience is acceptable in lieu of the degree.
- At least 2 years of construction safety experience (required).
