Position Summary

The Temperature Control Programmer is responsible for programming, configuring, and optimizing automated temperature control systems to ensure precise climate regulation in industrial, commercial, and mechanical environments. This role plays a key part in developing efficient control strategies, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining compliance with safety and energy efficiency standards.

Key Responsibilities

Programming & System Development

  • Develop, test, and implement control programs for temperature regulation systems, including Building Automation Systems (BAS), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and Direct Digital Controls (DDC).
  • Configure and integrate temperature control equipment such as thermostats, HVAC units, and automated dampers into centralized control systems.
  • Create and modify control algorithms to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.

System Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve programming or hardware-related issues in temperature control systems.
  • Conduct system audits, review data logs, and adjust control settings to ensure optimal temperature regulation.
  • Assist in debugging and refining existing control programs to enhance reliability and efficiency.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all temperature control programs adhere to industry regulations, company policies, and energy efficiency standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of programming logic, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Support facility teams in implementing safety measures related to temperature control systems.

Collaboration & Training

  • Work closely with engineers, HVAC technicians, and automation teams to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Provide training and technical support to maintenance personnel on control system operation and troubleshooting.
  • Stay updated on advancements in temperature control programming and recommend system enhancements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technology, Computer Science, or relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in temperature control programming, HVAC automation, or building automation systems.
  • Experience in industrial, commercial, or mechanical construction environments preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or BACnet protocols.
  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Strong understanding of HVAC control strategies, sensor calibration, and feedback loops.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and system blueprints.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in industrial, commercial, or mechanical environments.
  • Occasionally lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, or in varying temperature conditions as needed.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Building Automation Specialist (CBAS) or equivalent.
  • HVAC Technician Certification (e.g., EPA 608, NATE).
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
  • Niagara N4 Certification.
