Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with strong critical care skills for a night shift position requiring an IA or compact RN license and certification in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Responsibilities- Position is based in an acute care ICU with 16 beds
- Care for medical ICU patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1
- Common diagnoses include DKA, STEMI, stroke, a-fib RVR, COVID, COPD exacerbation, and PE
- RNs are required to titrate vasopressors and sedation drips including levo, neo, cardene, precedex, and propofol
- Advanced equipment used includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen (RT adjusts settings)
- Charting is performed using Epic EMR
- Night shifts are 12 hours (18:30-07:00), every third weekend required
- No self-scheduling or guaranteed block scheduling is available
- Floating to PCU is required if not needed in ICU
- No call or on-call requirement
- Must pass a skills-based open-book exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
- Navy blue scrubs required for all shifts
- Hospitalist is in-house 24/7; intensivist coverage during daytime and available via telemedicine at night
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on unit; RNs perform direct patient care
- Centralized monitor techs read strips but RNs must verify
- Floating may occur to progressive care unit as needed
- Compliance with fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails in patient care areas is required
- Holiday coverage required for July 4th
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted up front; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers will be considered for this role
- Active IA or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience preferred
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; PALS and TNCC preferred
- Experience with ICU pumps, drips, ventilators, and titration required
- Ability to read and verify monitor strips
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Must reside at least 50 miles from facility address as verified by driver's license
- May not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by Common Spirit Health, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Must provide 2 references: one supervisor within the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
