Job Summary
Location:
Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA.
Work Schedule:
Variable Hours, Monday - Friday, 40 hrs/Wk. House Supervisor shifts required. Stroke Coordinator for Jennie Edmundson.

- Provides guidance to individual staff members and leadership to define, and integrate best practice models for patient populations throughout the continuum of care.
- Mentors staff in developing, reviewing, and individualizing the plan of care to address the patients' nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
- Uses current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards, and research to assist staff in establishing the appropriate plan of care.
- Facilitates integration of theory, research, and critical thinking for the advancement of nursing practice at the system level.
- Mentors staff/leadership in the understanding, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Serves as the clinical expert in evidence based nursing practice.
- Knowledgeable of current research, and evidenced-based practices related to nursing practice.

- Supports the organization in implementing best-practices through system wide initiatives.
- Facilitates implementation of best-practice standards for PI, core measures, national patient safety goals, and patient outcomes at the system level.
- Recommends and facilitates proactive change within the organization to improve patient safety, and quality based on areas of opportunity identified through peer review, and other clinical process.
- Mentor and serve as a resource for staff, and leadership in the creation and implementation of quality improvement/evidence-based practice projects at the nursing practice level that support the mission, and strategic priorities of the organization.
- Mentor the use of research principles to determine best practice for the development of the organization's policies and procedures, practice guidelines, and protocols.
- Supports an environment of clinical inquiry through leadership, and innovation.
- Uses Iowa Model to promote evidence-based practice.
- Participates in the design, and/or evaluation of evidence-based education.
- Participates in Unit Based Councils as appropriate.
- Participates in Research and Evidence-Based Practice Council.
- Promotes the Methodist Nursing Professional Practice Model.
- Perform Stroke Program Coordinator responsibilities.
- Coordinate the maintenance and implementation of nursing standards of care for stroke patients.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and other clinicians in the development of stroke protocols in compliance with current practice guidelines, clinical paths, and outcome studies for stroke patients.
- Maintain clinical knowledge and skills for the stroke patient populations and provide expert consultation to patient care staff engaged in the care of stroke patients.
- Maintain the organizational structure and care processes necessary to provide evidenced based stroke care and comply with Joint Commission accreditation standards for Primary Stroke Center.
- Coordinate on-going staff educational opportunities for all levels and departments interacting with the stroke population.
- Participate in development and coordination of community screening/education programs for stroke prevention and community education.
- Analyze on-going data regarding outcomes of the Stroke Program and required quality/outcome data is submitted to the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies as needed.
- Participate in the analysis of process and quality improvement data for the purpose of action planning and change implementation.
- Coordinate and facilitate the quarterly Stroke Steering Committee meetings to ensure interdisciplinary member participation.

Education- Bachelor of Science (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
- NIH Stroke Scale training required.
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
- 3-5 years clinical practice experience required.
- 1-3 years clinical leadership experience required (CNS, NP).
