Position: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit - Full Time - Nights

Job Summary

Location:

Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA

Work Schedule:

Full Time, 7:00PM - 7:00AM, 36 hours per week. Holiday rotation every 3rd weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).

Incentives:

$25,000 sign‑on bonus, up to $10,000 tuition reimbursement, shift differentials and other financial incentives, tuition assistance, academic sponsorship with Methodist College, free parking.

Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age and population of the patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the population specific criteria.
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment to determine the patient's ongoing nursing care needs, using assessment findings in discharge planning.
  • Develops, reviews, revises, and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum outcomes, collaborating with physicians and other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Implements interventions consistent with the established plan of care, following nursing protocols, administering medication without error, and using critical thinking regarding medication effects.
  • Evaluates patient care to determine response to interventions, monitors outcomes, documents patient response, and provides complete shift change report, including SBAR content.
  • Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment as required, and documenting supplies accurately.
  • Maintains professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions; participates in committees and performance‑improvement activities.
  • Initiates actions to correct, prevent, or minimize risks to patients, families, or employees, completing appropriate incident reports and following infection‑control guidelines.
  • Reviews, delegates, and evaluates plans for appropriate staff utilization, ensuring right task, right person, right communication, and right feedback.
  • Job Requirements
    Education

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred; graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

    NIH Stroke Scale training required at hire or within 6 months of hire.

    Successful completion of Telemetry Cardiac Rhythm Course and annual mandatory educational requirements.

    Experience

    No experience necessary.

    License/Certifications
    • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact multistate license or temporary permit while awaiting licensure) required.
    • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at hire, required within 3 months.
    • Preferred: core certification related to specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year.
    • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within one year; maintenance required.
    • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, and staff; ability to multi‑task and prioritize work assignments; competence in required computer skills; ability to learn, retain, and utilize information system skills.

    Physical Requirements

    Weight demands: medium, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds. Physical activities include climbing, crawling, kneeling, balancing, carrying, crouching, distinguishing colors, keyboarding/typing, lifting, pulling, pushing, repetitive motions, stooping/bending, twisting, grasping, hearing, reaching, seeing/visual, speaking/talking, standing, walking. The job may involve constant repetition or occasionally performed activities as listed.

    Job Hazards

    Hazards include electrical shock, static, non‑ionizing and ionizing radiation, chemical agents, biological agents, and mechanical hazards. Specific hazards vary by unit (e.g., NICU). Employees must comply with all safety and infection‑control practices.
