Position: Registered Nurse - Cath Lab - Casual - Days

Job Summary

Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA.

Work schedule:

M‑F daytime hours, with on‑call after hours. This is a casual position. Casual employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Work days/hours will often vary from week to week. Accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to the individualized needs of the patient.

Responsibilities
  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, ensuring understanding and comfort as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria. Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and deliver individualized customer service/patient care.
  • Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient’s ongoing nursing care needs. Include data from the patient/significant other(s) as appropriate. Prioritize data collection according to the patient’s immediate needs and use assessment findings in discharge planning.
  • Develop, review, and revise an individualized plan of care to address the patient’s nursing care needs for optimum outcomes. Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines. Provide teaching specific to the patient’s health care problem. The plan reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge/transfer.
  • Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner following nursing protocols and standards of care for the unit.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to interventions and monitor outcomes. Document patient response and evaluate limitations related to nursing and medical interventions. Provide a complete verbal or written change‑of‑shift report including SBAR content.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently, ensuring patient safety and continuous learning of new skills and equipment.
  • Maintain professional behavior, attitude, demeanor, and appearance. Communicate effectively at the unit level. Participate in meetings and committees as needed.
  • Initiate actions to correct, prevent, or minimize risks to patients, families, or staff. Complete appropriate incident reports and communicate unresolved issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff across levels in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Exercise fiscal accountability, charging accurately for supplies and equipment per policy.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required. Must have been obtained within 5 years of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • For MJE Progressive Care: BSN preferred; graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • For NMH Critical Care: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training required by end of orientation. For MJE Progressive Care: NIH Stroke Scale training required at hire or within 6 months. Successful completion of Telemetry Cardiac Rhythm Course.
Experience
  • No prior experience required if specialty not listed.
  • NMH CT Scan – 1 to 3 years experience in direct patient care, IV start skills.
  • NMH MRI – 1 to 3 years experience, IV start skills.
  • NMH Nuclear Medicine – 5 years experience in nursing clinical settings.
  • MJE Neurodiagnostics – at least 2 years of nursing experience in cardiac/ICU.
  • MWH PACU – Critical Care or Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit experience.
  • NMH PACU – 1 to 2 years nursing experience.
  • NMH Surgery GI Lab – 1 to 2 years experience.
  • NMH Cath Lab – 1 year experience in Cardiac Cath Lab or related units.
  • NMH Surgery Pre‑Op Services – 1 to 2 years nursing experience.
  • Surgery OP Support HW – minimum 2 years RN experience.
  • MFH Radiology Diagnostics – 3 years experience, IV start skills.
  • NMH Radiology Surgical – experience in surgical environment.
  • MWH Repro Endo Infert – pre/post operative and circulating experience.
  • MPC Colon & Rectal Surgery ASC – acute care or surgical nursing experience.
  • MJE Cardiopulmonary Rehab – 1 year telemetry experience.
  • MFH Radiology Diagnostics – pre/post operative and circulating experience.
