Position: Nursing Assistant - Medical Surgical - Full Time - Nights

Job Summary

Nursing Assistant (Nurse Assistant).

St, Council Bluffs, IA.

Work schedule:

7:00p.m.–7:00a.m., three 12‑hour shifts per week with every third weekend and rotating holidays. Eligible for full‑time benefits. Incentives may include a $2,000 sign‑on bonus, shift differentials, tuition assistance, and academic sponsorship.

Responsibilities
  • Provide age‑specific patient care, ensuring understanding and comfort, complete age‑specific competency assessments, and deliver individualized service.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal relations with patients, co‑workers, physicians, and guests, respond promptly and courteously, obtain and communicate patient feedback, and maintain a positive attitude while meeting requests accurately.
  • Complete clinical activities from the patient’s plan of care: reporting comfort needs, ensuring skin cleanliness and dryness, providing personal care and ADL support, assisting with repositioning and ambulation, taking vital signs and weight, reinforcing patient education, providing transportation assistance, and reporting variations to professional staff.
  • Document all data accurately and completely in Cerner or worksheets, ensuring records reflect patient responses and care delivered.
  • Perform housekeeping activities to maintain a safe, efficient, sanitary environment: high dusting, vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, removing trash and soiled linen, managing room temperature, and restocking linens and care areas.
  • Respond to call lights timely, relay patient requests, assist other team members, report incidents, and apply standard and transmission‑based precautions correctly.
  • Assist the staff nurse with delegated patient care, applying the four rights of delegation and the reciprocal process for safe task execution.
  • Prepare exam rooms and equipment for treatment, manage sterilization needs, and maintain equipment readiness per provider protocol.
  • Maintain work areas and clinical care stock, organizing and restocking supplies independently.
  • Cover the front reception area as directed, assist with intake, scheduling, and other duties.
  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED (preferred). Completion of first clinical rotation as Nursing Assistant preferred.
    • Successful completion of the 75‑hour state‑approved Nurse Assistant course or six months of experience (required); high‑school students 16+ years old who meet criteria may be considered.
    • Previous customer service, cleaning, food service, or patient‑related experience preferred; one to three months on‑job experience in a hospital setting preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross strongly preferred at hire; required within three months.
    • Ability to understand and carry out instructions, follow schedules, communicate information, read clear instructions, complete reports, and demonstrate critical thinking skills commensurate with the job description.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 50pounds, perform routine care tasks, and adhere to stated physical activity percentages.
    • Knowledge of infection control, standard precautions, transmission‑based precautions, and ability to participate in mandatory in‑services and continuing education.
    Physical Requirements

    Work involves lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, crawling, kneeling, balancing, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, stooping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform daily patient care tasks and adhere to safety protocols.
