Job Summary
Location:
Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA.
Schedule:
4‑10 hour shifts, Monday through Friday 07:00‑17:30. Call required including weekend and holiday rotation.
Accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to individualized needs.

- Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, ensuring understanding and comfort as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria. Demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities for and provide individualized customer service/patient care according to patient needs.
- Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient’s nursing care needs, including data from the patient or significant other. Prioritize data collection according to immediate needs and use findings for discharge planning.
- Develop, review, revise, and individualize the plan of care to address nursing needs for optimum outcomes. Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines. Provide teaching specific to the patient’s health care problem.
- Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care, following nursing protocols and standards of care. Use current knowledge based on evidence and research.
- Evaluate patient care, monitor outcomes, document responses, and assess limitations related to nursing and medical interventions. Provide complete verbal or written shift reports including SBAR content.
- Perform technical skills competently and independently, learning new skills and equipment within specified time frames. Demonstrate correct technique and safety in use of equipment.
- Maintain professional behavior, demeanor, and interactions. Communicate effectively to solve unit‑level problems and participate in meetings and committees as needed.
- Initiate corrective actions to minimize risks to patients, families, or employees. Complete appropriate incident reports and communicate unresolved issues.
- Review, delegate, and evaluate staff utilization to ensure compliance with the State Nurse Practice Act and professional standards.
- Act fiscally accountable; charge accurately for supplies and equipment per policy.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college (required) or within five years of hire for nurses holding an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- For MJE Surgery Main:
Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or BSN (required). BSN preferred. - For NMH Oncology:
Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required. - For NMH Medical Observation & Ortho Neuro: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required in the first six months.
- Completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
- MJE Radiation Oncology: 3–5 years hospital or office experience with emphasis in oncology or med/surg nursing.
- NMH Palliative Care:
Minimum two years related RN experience. - NMH IV Team: 3–6 months on‑job training to learn techniques and equipment.
- NMH Surgery Main:
Two years of OR experience for weekend positions. - MFH Surgery Main:
Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience and surgical experience. - MJE Surgery Main:
Previous surgical experience. - MJE Behavioral Health Psych IP:
One year hospital experience. - NMH IV Team:
Venipuncture experience.
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, or valid compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within three months of hire.
- Preferred certifications:
National Certification Corporation (NCC) within one year of eligibility in specialty area. - NMH & MWH & MJE:
American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS). - NMH & MWH & MFH Surgery Main:
