Additional ResponsibilitiesChassis Maintenance and Repair
Perform FMCSA-compliant inspections, including annual inspections and pre-trip/post-trip inspections.
Diagnose and repair chassis components, including:
Air brake systems, chambers, valves, slack adjusters, and ABS systems; suspension systems, including spring and air ride systems
Wheel ends, hubs, seals, and bearings, tires, wheels, and lug components
Lighting systems and electrical wiring, structural components, and frame assemblies
Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service, identify safety defects, and ensure proper documentation and corrective action.
Refrigerated Container (Reefer) Maintenance and Repair
Perform Pre-Trip Inspections (PTI) in accordance with manufacturer and customer standards.
Diagnose and repair refrigeration units, including Carrier, Thermo King, or similar systems.
Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, and control system failures.
Repair or replace components such as compressors, controllers, sensors, motors, wiring, and fans.
Repair container structural components, including doors, seals, floors, and panels.
Ensure units meet operational performance and temperature control requirements.
Generator Set (Genset) Maintenance and Repair
Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered generator sets.
Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacement, and cooling system service.
Troubleshoot diesel engines, alternators, electrical systems, and controllers.
Perform operational testing to verify proper performance and reliability.
Ensure compliance with emissions, safety, and operational standards.
Equipment Movement and Vehicle Operation
Safely operate yard spotter trucks (yard tractors) to move chassis, containers, and gensets within the facility.
Position equipment for inspection, repair, storage, and operational readiness.
Operate mobile service trucks to perform repairs and maintenance in the yard and at customer locations.
Maintain mobile service truck inventory, tools, and parts.
Conduct basic inspections of service and spotter vehicles and report maintenance needs.
Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment as required.
Documentation and Compliance
Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
Document parts used, labor performed, and equipment condition.
Maintain compliance with FMCSA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company policies.
Ensure equipment is properly tagged, tracked, and status updated in maintenance systems.
General Shop and Operational Duties
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas and follow all company safety procedures and use required PPE.
Communicate equipment status and repair needs with supervisors and operations personnel; assist with yard inspections and fleet readiness as required.
Role SummaryThe Intermodal Chassis, Refrigerated Container, and Genset Technician is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of intermodal chassis, refrigerated shipping containers (reefers), and diesel generator sets (gensets). This position also operates yard spotter trucks and mobile service vehicles to safely move equipment and perform field repairs. The technician ensures all equipment meets safety, regulatory, and operational standards to support reliable customer service and fleet readiness.

Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills.
Knowledge of air brake systems and diesel engines.
Ability to operate yard spotter trucks and service vehicles safely.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation.

Function Specific SkillsPhysical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work under equipment for extended periods.
Ability to climb onto chassis and containers safely.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Required Minimum Years ExperienceMinimum 2 years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel, intermodal, refrigeration, or related maintenance field preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
EPA Section 608 Certification
FMCSA Annual Inspector Certification
Experience with Carrier and Thermo King refrigeration units
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not always required)
Welding and fabrication experience
Experience operating yard spotter trucks and mobile service trucks
RequiredMinimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
