Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is seeking a Rehabilitation Career Planner to join our team at the Iowa WORKS office in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

    Full‑time | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Work Flexibility:
    Hybrid telework and alternate schedules available after six months of employment
What You’ll Do

Provide comprehensive customer support and workforce development services through the Iowa WORKS system. Conduct customer assessments to determine eligibility for specialized programs and job referrals, deliver presentations to customers and employers, and provide guidance on available workforce resources and services. Maintain exceptional customer service while assisting diverse populations in person, by phone, and through virtual platforms. Interpret and apply administrative rules, regulations, and program requirements, utilize technology to manage and communicate information, collaborate effectively within a team environment, and perform efficiently in fast‑paced, high‑volume settings requiring multitasking and adaptability.

Responsibilities

This position will support the successful inclusion of Iowans with disabilities within the One‑Stop employment service system and in the business community. The Disability Program Career Planner will welcome each customer in a friendly and professional manner and provide courtesy, respect, and politeness during all interactions with customers, both internal and external.

  • Ask customers questions to determine programs and services they are seeking and/or needing.
  • Interact effectively and build respectful relationships among coworkers and partners.
  • Collaborate with team members within the American Job Center to enhance the customer experience.
  • Provide feedback and potential solutions to the team and leadership.
Career Coaching and Customer Support
  • Coach, motivate, and encourage job seekers on all aspects of the job search.
  • Provide intensive career planning services to people with disabilities and ensure that individuals are connected to all Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs and services they are eligible for.
  • Assist in the facilitation and development of Integrated Resource Teams (IRTs) in the AJC to blend services and funding around an individual customer’s needs.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of programs and services regarding needs such as healthcare, Medicare, transportation, housing, and education/training.
  • Assist customers to build their personal and job skills for the primary goal of successful employment.
  • Provide customer assistance with preparing and tailoring resumes and cover letters.
  • Facilitate mock interviews for customers and appropriate workshops and employment events.
  • Facilitate workshops or one‑on‑one appointments in‑person or through virtual conferencing platforms for system participants, updating workshops and presentations as new information becomes available.
Communication and Networking
  • Build and maintain partnerships with businesses, community organizations, disability groups, government agencies, and workforce partners.
  • Provide information on employment services, Social Security work incentives, job accommodations, and disability employment resources.
  • Conduct outreach and promote the Ticket to Work program to customers and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in Disability Access Committee meetings and provide resources and support.
  • Represent the organization through presentations, networking, and community engagement activities to strengthen services for individuals with disabilities.
Career and Training Services
  • Provide individualized career and training services to eligible adults, displaced workers, and youth in accordance with federal, state, and local policies and procedures.
  • Administer appropriate assessments to determine career interests.
  • Ensure all participants are aware of work‑based learning and training opportunities in the local area to achieve their individual employment goals.
