Behavior Technician / Teacher Assistant (Full & Part Time)

Location:

Coventry and Warwick, Rhode Island.
Starting Date:
Immediately.

Job Description Overview

Implement behavior analysis educational and treatment programs for individual children in the classroom under the direction of the Director of Special Education, Director of Clinical and Educational Services, classroom teacher, or designated Behavior Analyst. Collect data, participate in data management, and collaborate with student treatment teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and team processes to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Implement instructional strategies consistently and accurately.
  • Manage behavioral measurement systems and collect data.
  • Communicate any medical or physical changes in student status to the teacher, BA, and nursing staff.
  • Provide positive, supportive, and proactive teaching programs at all times.
  • Coordinate classroom activities when the Classroom Teacher is absent.
  • Work as part of a team to support all students, classrooms, and staff.
  • Document medical or physical injuries/incidents.
  • Execute all evacuation procedures.
  • Manage child’s educational program, including self‑care and toileting skills.
  • Assist with transitions, inclusions, and special activities.
  • Support generalization of skills to community settings.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested by the Director, BA, and Classroom Teacher.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or 60 college credits;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a teaching capacity is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and personal vehicle for transport when required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

Physical Requirements
  • Handle a broad range of needs presented by children with autism, including significant problem behaviors.
  • Work may involve sitting in small chairs or on the floor and rapid movement, including running, to address safety and teaching needs.
  • Physical contact may be necessary, especially when child safety is a concern.
  • Must achieve certification in the crisis management system used by the program within the specified timeline.
