Sacred Heart School is a parish affiliated elementary school serving students from TK through 8th grade. We are located in Covina in the San Gabriel Valley. Our mission is to provide students with a Catholic faith-based community that promotes a strong academic program and a foundation for spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional growth that will support their educational journey.
OverviewSacred Heart is looking for a full-time 6th grade homeroom teacher with experience and expertise in middle school math, social studies, and religion instruction. The candidate should demonstrate experience with research-based, grade-appropriate instructional strategies for grades 6–8. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the 6th grade homeroom teacher is responsible for school-wide religious prayer services and special Mass celebrations as the School Religion Coordinator.
All full-time teachers are expected to attend faculty, department, and grade-level meetings. Teachers are assigned supervision duties after school and participate in faith formation activities, including masses, prayer services, staff retreats, and student retreats.
- Teach five junior high core subject areas and manage the daily duties of a homeroom teacher.
- Deliver instruction using standards-based (California state and Archdiocesan) curriculum.
- Create and submit lesson plans following the weekly faculty calendar schedule.
- Utilize Gradelink to maintain grades, attendance, and other school records.
- Provide regular communication with students, their families, and the school administration concerning student progress.
- Participate and collaborate with other grade-level educators in monthly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and provide academic support to students.
- Serve as the Religion Coordinator for school religious services and Mass celebrations.
- Experience teaching all core subjects at the upper elementary through high-school level in a Catholic school; preferably with middle-school-aged/junior high students.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A multi-subject/single-subject teaching credential is preferred, along with experience and/or credential in upper elementary or high school level religion and/or math-related field.
- Prefer prior teaching experience in a Catholic educational setting.
Wage Range:
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. Compensation decisions consider factors including skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs.
