OverviewThe City of Covina is currently accepting applications for Community Resources Assistants I and II in various program areas including Youth Sports Rentals, Special Events, and Day Camp. These positions are under general supervision and assist in the organization, implementation, and supervision of City recreation and community programs within the Parks and Recreation, and Library Services Department.
Responsibilities- Accept responsibility for learning to assist and assisting with the organization, implementation, and supervision of City recreation and community programs at city facilities, parks and schools, including after school programs, teen programs, sports programs, aquatics programs, day camp, senior programs, Library programs.
- Monitor and teach participants in recreation programs; supervise and lead program activities.
- Set up for and clean up after program activities.
- Maintain City buildings and property, including picking up trash, sweeping, restocking and cleaning restrooms, washing windows, etc.
- Deliver equipment to sites throughout the City and organize and stock equipment storage areas.
- Research new program ideas; may collect registration fees.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of programs, events, and activities.
- Establish positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.
The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping. It also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination with a computer keyboard, as well as near and far vision and acute hearing. Lifting, dragging, and pushing files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is required. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals or pool chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants.
The nature of the work may require the incumbent to drive motorized vehicles. This outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. Some requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
Community Resources Aide
Experience as a participant in a variety of extracurricular activities and completion of sophomore year in high school.
Community Resources Assistant I
One year of experience in recreation or community programs or events, or a related field and completion of junior year in high school.
Community Resources Assistant II
Two years of experience in recreation or community programs, or a related field, and completion of high school. One year of college may be counted in lieu of one of the required years of experience.
The ideal candidates will possess experience in playing or coaching sports, working with children and customer experience, and must be available evenings and weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge ofModern principles and practices of recreation and community programs; basic principles of mathematics; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to recreation programs, including safety practices and SB 198 laws; rules, regulations and policies affecting and related to recreation and community programs; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling and grammar;
occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Plan, organize and coordinate recreation and community activities for the City; enforce safety rules relating to assigned recreational events; work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; analyze assigned programs and develop and recommend appropriate responses; learn more complex principles, practices, techniques, and regulations pertaining to assigned duties; implement, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations related to recreation programs offered;
