Job Description
PEC Interiors is a full-service specialty contractor specializing in acoustical, metal, and wood ceilings, flooring, interior and exterior finish wall systems, drywall, plaster, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, and related commercial and industrial interior construction.
PEC Interiors is seeking an Estimator to support our Interiors Department by preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates for commercial and industrial interior projects. This position will work closely with Project Managers and department leadership to review plans and specifications, perform material and labor takeoffs, obtain vendor and subcontractor pricing, and develop complete project estimates.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial interiors construction, particularly metal stud framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, and related finishes. This individual must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist Project Managers and department leadership with preparing accurate and timely estimates for interior construction projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and other construction documents to determine project scope.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials and labor associated with:
- Metal stud framing
- Drywall and gypsum assemblies
- Acoustical ceilings and ceiling systems
- FRP
- Interior and exterior finish wall systems
- Specialty ceilings and related interior finishes
- Develop detailed estimates that account for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
- Solicit and review pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Compare vendor and subcontractor proposals to project plans and specifications to ensure complete scope coverage.
- Identify potential scope gaps, exclusions, conflicts, and constructability concerns during the estimating process.
- Assist with developing bid proposals, clarifications, exclusions, alternates, and value-engineering options.
- Maintain organized estimating documentation, takeoffs, quotes, bid information, and project files.
- Track bid deadlines and ensure estimates and supporting documentation are completed on time.
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure estimated labor, material, and production assumptions are realistic and consistent with field conditions.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope reviews, and project handoff meetings as needed.
- Assist Project Managers with pricing change orders and additional work after project award.
- Maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, and other industry partners.
- Stay current on material pricing, labor productivity, construction methods, and industry trends that may impact project costs.
- Support the transition of awarded projects from estimating to project management by clearly communicating scope, pricing assumptions, vendor quotes, exclusions, and potential project risks.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented approach when working with customers, coworkers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or department leadership.
- Experience in commercial construction estimating, project coordination, project management, or field supervision within drywall, framing, acoustical ceilings, or related interior trades preferred.
- Strong knowledge of commercial drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, FRP, and interior finish construction preferred.
- Ability to read and thoroughly understand construction drawings, specifications, architectural plans, and project documents.
- Experience performing material and labor takeoffs.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to identify scope requirements and potential discrepancies within plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with Project Managers, field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions when information is incomplete or project requirements change.
- Experience with Bluebeam or similar construction takeoff and PDF software preferred.
