Primary Purpose

The Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional shall report directly to the principal; however, the paraprofessional is under the daily supervision of their assigned teacher/s. The Pre-Kindergarten Paraprofessional must be able to perform tasks involving light/moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling and must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. Vision, hearing and verbal communication are essential factors in performing required tasks, duties, and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or two years (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) of college or HS diploma/GED with successful completion of the Georgia Paraprofessional Assessment Certification Test.
  • Valid Paraprofessional Certificate.
  • Be able to work well with adults and students, and possess good communication skills.
  • Be well organized and have good time management skills.
Description of Duties
  • Is present at work every day, on time, and performs all duties as assigned effectively and efficiently.
  • Is neat and professional in appearance befitting the job they provide the school system.
  • Shall exhibit a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills as applicable for the job.

  • Recognizes Cultural Diversity in dealing with students, parents, coworkers and the public.
  • Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, as related to job requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to chain of command.
  • Participates in appropriate trainings, workshops and staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
  • Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  • Exhibits time on task, a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard working attitude and style.
  • Takes direction readily in a cooperative manner from the lead teacher.
  • Assist the lead teacher in maintaining orderly, neat and attractive atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Provides adequate supervision of students at all times.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the regularly-assigned teacher.
  • Conducts small-group and individual instruction according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Assists in student data collection.
  • Assists in routine record‑keeping.
  • Prepares instructional materials according to supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Locates, procures, operates and returns needed equipment.
  • Assists in routine classroom housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Be physically able to perform tasks involving light to heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling and must be able to walk and/or stand a minimum of six (6) hours with breaks.
  • Assists in ordering/inventorying classroom equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Demonstrates loyalty to the school, school system and administrators.
  • Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
