Data Center Technician, AWS Opportunity for Military Community

This opportunity is for U.S. citizens who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces—including Reserves, National Guard, and service member spouses—to join a dynamic AWS team as a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure.

As a Data Center Technician, you will maintain the heartbeat of the world’s most innovative technology platform by performing in‑depth hardware and network diagnostics, repair, and on‑call rotation. You will work in night/overnight shifts (approximately 6 pm–8 am) and may be scheduled for additional hours to support 24/7 operations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Installing server racks and performing hardware break‑fix on various components.
• Troubleshooting network issues and responding to operational incidents that impact service availability.
• Carrying out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to overall availability of AWS services.
• Serving as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
• Participating in on‑call duties, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities.
• Contributing to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis.
• Helping interview, train, and onboard new team members.

Physical requirements:

• Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds.
• Working in cramped and/or elevated locations.
• Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
• Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
• Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely without limitation.
• Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).
• Possibility of travel to established locations for training until assigned facility becomes fully operational.

Essential requirements:

• Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
• Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
• Frequent travel may vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.

A day in the life of a Data Center Technician:

• Take ownership of technical issues and engage other teams when needed to drive resolution.
• Show a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Resolve problems at their root and maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
• Act independently in the absence of direction or support.
• Improve effectiveness through process innovation.

• Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
• 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
• 18+ months of layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair).

• Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional or military experience in an IT‑related field (e.g., computer science, network engineering).
• Industry standard certifications (CompTIA, CCENT, Network+).
• Understanding of Linux or similar operating systems.
• Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience.
• Experience training and onboarding of new team members.
