Buyer
Location: Covington Area (Onsite)
Job Type: Full-Time
A growing manufacturing company is seeking a detail-oriented Buyer to join its purchasing team. This position is an excellent opportunity for an early-career procurement or supply chain professional looking to build a long-term career in purchasing within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The Buyer will support procurement activities by creating and tracking purchase orders, maintaining supplier communications, monitoring deliveries, helping manage inventory accuracy, and ensuring purchasing data is accurately maintained within the ERP system. The role works closely with Purchasing, Production, Planning, Warehouse, and Supplier partners to help ensure uninterrupted operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Order Management
- Create, issue, and monitor purchase orders based on planning requirements and inventory needs.
- Confirm pricing, order acknowledgments, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Follow up on open orders and expedite critical materials when necessary.
- Process purchase order revisions, cancellations, returns, and supplier updates.
- Communicate potential material shortages or delays to internal stakeholders.
Supplier Support
- Serve as a day-to-day contact for assigned suppliers regarding order status and delivery schedules.
- Obtain and compare pricing quotations for routine purchases and spot buys.
- Assist with supplier performance tracking and data collection.
- Help identify alternative sources and suppliers when needed.
Data & Inventory Support
- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, lead-time, and item information within the ERP system.
- Assist with resolving receiving discrepancies, invoice issues, and supplier-related concerns.
- Support inventory accuracy initiatives and cycle count activities.
- Generate reports on purchase orders, supplier performance, and delivery status.
- Maintain purchasing documentation and compliance records.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, production planning, warehouse operations, or manufacturing administration (internships considered).
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including sorting, filtering, and basic formulas.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems.
- Exposure to manufacturing, building materials, wood products, furniture, cabinetry, or related industries.
- Interest in pursuing a career path within procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management.
- Familiarity with inventory management and supplier coordination.
