General Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Associate Director, (ETO) Sterilization Operations and works closely with the Human Resources Team to support and lead site‑wide initiatives. Exercises independent judgment in establishing priorities and maintains a high degree of confidentiality in handling all business transactions, correspondence, performance plans, appraisals, compensation, and other employee relations issues. Supports UCC Covington Operations and Kitting Operations at the Global Distribution Center in Covington, GA.

Summary

The Operations Manager oversees the daily activities of an hourly and weekly workforce in Covington, Georgia, managing the Receiving Department and a team of Kitting employees at the Global Distribution Center. The role sets objectives and daily goals, ensures adherence to all plant and division SOPs, DOPs, QSR Guidelines, ISO standards, and FDA requirements, and administers department budgets while fostering open communication and company values of quality, integrity, and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure adequacy of staff through effective workforce planning, timely interviewing, hiring, and training of employees.
  • Prepare work schedules, expedite workflow, and assist in the daily setup of various operational activities.
  • Delegate duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Identify and maintain items needed for sterilization, submitting requests to the Purchasing Department.
  • Participate actively in all Lean Thinking initiatives.
  • Operate proficiently in all aspects of the Material Resource Planning system (MRP) applicable to kitting and receiving.
  • Promote an inclusive speak‑up culture through positive employee relations and servant leadership in support of the Good Jobs Strategy.
  • Compile and submit monthly departmental reports such as budget, WIP inventory, cost variances, and various performance measurement reports.
  • Ensure proper training of employees and conformance to all SOPs and DOPs.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, QSR and FDA guidelines, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA and EPA regulations that impact operations (warehouse safety, forklift safety).
  • Knowledge of cGMP and FDA‑regulated processes.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Flexible schedule and willing to work after hours and overtime when needed; shift schedules may change based on business needs.
  • Training in Lean tools and techniques (5S, TPM, value‑stream mapping) is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Working knowledge of quality programs.

Must have proven interpersonal skills and ability to lead people.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4‑year college or university – Science degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a GMP‑compliant medical device processing operation.
Physical Demands
  • Regular typing and computer work performed daily.
  • Occasional light physical effort (e.g., prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting of items up to 30 lbs.).
Work Environment
  • General office environment.
  • Occasional minor inconvenience or discomfort, such as moderate noise or disagreeable odors.
