The Maintenance Automation Technician primary function is to support manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering by repair, modification, troubleshooting, and/or testing, of production equipment through the application of electrical engineering principles and theory. The Maintenance Automation Technician serves as the key resource for their maintenance team in the process of troubleshooting and repairing electrical and automation issues.
Key Tasks / Primary Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot circuit breakers, relays, VFDs, motion controls, servos, and linear actuators.
- Interpret wiring system diagrams to aid in troubleshooting.
- Set up and test new electrical equipment, ensuring it meets operational requirements.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical control systems, including PLCs.
- Service and maintain electric motors, drives, and relays on AC or DC systems.
- Work independently to perform electrical diagnostics and provide maintenance and troubleshooting support.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain issues on all aspects of production equipment such as mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Associate degree in Industrial Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
Minimum two to five years related experience in a manufacturing environment in electrical maintenance or engineering capacity.
Required Skills and Knowledge- Proven experience as an Electrical Controls Technician in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and automation.
- PLC programming, troubleshooting, and design for Allen Bradley PLC5, SLC5, Omron CS, Siemens.
- Knowledge of Motion Control Technology including VFDs, Servo Drives, Encoders, Linear Electric Actuators.
- Work with robotics to troubleshoot or adjust parameters for setup (Fanuc).
- Hands‑on modification and troubleshooting of production equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thorough understanding of a multimeter and its functions.
- Thorough understanding of an amp meter and its functions.
- Ability to weld (MIG, TIG, and Arc/Stick).
- Knowledge of specialty tools such as a torque wrench or micrometer.
- Ability to use taps and dies.
- Ability to operate a drill press, lathe, or vertical mill.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen.
- Contributes to the team effort by being flexible in work assignments and covering for other staff as needed.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attaining job‑related certification and staying current on industry trends.
- Acts on constructive feedback from peers, supervisors, and clients to improve performance.
- Improves processes by examining work procedures and recommending changes where appropriate.
- Upholds work standards by maintaining professional conduct and appearance and by seeking assistance when needed.
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk, in office or field duties.

- Ordinary vision and hearing for communication and observation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, forms and instructions.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence in English.
- Ability to effectively respond to questions and communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Ability to use basic mathematical formulas (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to apply knowledge and sense of understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Strong attention to details, organized, resourceful, and professional.

- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to analyze and use various documents such as engineering drawings, manuals, contracts, purchase orders, and the like.
- Ability to use Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience designing custom reports.
- Proficiency with programming languages, HMIs, virtual machines, and ladder logic.
- Must be tactful, mature, flexible and able to respond successfully to multiple work pressures.
- Exceeds efficiency standards and can work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
