Senior Structural Steel Fabrication Supervisor Picture your day starting with a quick huddle on the shop floor. You review the fabrication schedule, confirm priorities, and assign work so every station is moving in sync. You check in with project managers and engineers to clarify tolerances and sequencing, then walk the line to verify tools are set, materials are staged, and the team has what they need to deliver on-time, on-spec steel components.

As the senior lead, you balance people leadership with hands-on oversight. You mentor fabricators through complex weldments, audit work against drawings, and coach safe work practices. When a bottleneck appears, you troubleshoot root causes, adjust resources, and implement improvements that boost throughput without sacrificing quality or safety. Before the day closes, you document progress, flag risks, and report status and variances to Management and Superintendents.

What you’ll ownLead and coordinate all structural steel fabrication activities to meet production schedules and rigorous quality standards.

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of fabricators; set clear expectations and elevate performance.

Run day-to-day shop operations, including scheduling, task assignments, and progress tracking.

Partner directly with project managers and engineers to translate fabrication requirements into executable work.

Ensure correct use, upkeep, and safety of fabrication tools and machinery; manage materials inventory.

Perform routine inspections of fabricated components for specification and safety compliance.

Champion continuous improvement to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance quality.

Enforce safety regulations, ensure consistent PPE usage, and oversee safety protocol adherence.

Provide timely reports on job status, production progress, and any issues or delays to leadership.

Skills and qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
7+ years in structural steel fabrication, including 2–3+ years leading or supervising.

Advanced ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.

AWS welding certification.

Extensive background in welding, cutting, and core fabrication techniques.

Proven troubleshooting skills for complex fabrication challenges.

Strong leadership: able to supervise, mentor, manage, motivate, and train a team.

Exceptional attention to detail with a quality-first mindset.

Thorough, in-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices.

Ability to juggle multiple projects and set effective priorities.

Working conditions and physical demands

Work in all weather conditions depending on job location and season: heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Wear required PPE (safety glasses, face shield, gloves) and a respirator when needed.

Frequent repetitive motions of arms, hands, and fingers.

Ability to work 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, with overtime and night shifts as required.

Capable of bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.

Physical stamina and strength to lift 51 pounds.

On your feet and moving for most of the shift.
