Job Overview
A Data Center Engineering Technician will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data center equipment, supporting AWS global infrastructure. The role ensures 99.999% uptime across electrical, mechanical, and safety systems.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily building rounds to monitor and record data from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
- Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
- Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Perform rack installs and decommissioning within SLA timelines.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM), root‑cause analysis, and repair on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Write technical documentation to support change‑management programs.
- Manage daily work requests, coordinate projects from inception to completion.
- Provide on‑site support for contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring alignment with established practices and local legislation.
- Accommodate variable shift schedules, including up to 12‑hour shifts, rotations, and on‑call responsibilities.
- Possibly support multiple sites.
- Lift or move up to 39 pounds independently; participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.
- Perform construction tasks while on a ladder; maintain balance, work above shoulders, climb stairs, twist, bend, push/pull objects.
- Walk, use hands and fingers, flex, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Work in an environment requiring ear protection.
- Travel or commute to data center locations as needed (over 50 miles or less than 50 miles).
- Temporary work at alternative sites during training or until assigned facility is operational.
- Willingness to commute between sites based on business and operational status.
The technician is the front line for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of mission‑critical equipment such as generators, diesel fuel systems, three‑phase electrical systems (switch gear, UPS, PDU, wet‑cell batteries), CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire/life safety systems, building automation, and general facilities equipment.
Basic Qualifications- 2+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience.
- 2+ years of electrical and mechanical experience.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and/or weekends.
- Experience in a data center or mission‑critical facility.
- Associate or higher education in a related field.
- Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
