Overview

The Accountant I role supports the businesses in a broad range of Operations Accounting activities. The position works directly with Accounting Leaders and Business Segments, supporting the effective execution of Operations Accounting’s Goals and Objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year‑end close activities.
  • Perform ongoing accounting for derivatives and treasury transactions.
  • Assist with analyzing financial statements and explaining variances.
  • Effectively maintain the control environment.
  • Assist with project work and process improvements.
  • Live the safety standard and adhere to safety responsibilities.
  • Report safety concerns and adhere to client safety policies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic accounting and grow knowledge.
  • Assist with reviewing financial information for inconsistencies.
  • Ensure account reconciliations are supported by valid items in accordance with US GAAP and OC policy.
  • Work directly with accounting leaders to resolve issues and concerns timely.
  • Provide support to the Sr. Treasury Analyst II for technical accounting, performing baseline research on accounting policy and guidance.
  • Assist with development of Balance Sheet reviews, understanding relationships between financial items.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Actively pursue continued education inside and/or outside the company.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of processes and drive improvement.
  • Facilitate and complete monthly, quarterly and year‑end close cycle.
  • Provide timely and accurate journal entries for assigned areas.
  • Proactively assist with comprehensive review and analysis of data.
  • Consistently look for opportunities to improve.
  • Complete all account reconciliations timely and in accordance with OC policy.
  • Develop and document sound, consistent and sustainable processes and controls.
  • Contribute to department and organization special projects.
  • Continuously build an intimate knowledge of our businesses to provide insightful analysis of operating performance and financial statements.
  • Consult with internal customers as the SAP, BPC and BI user expert to provide understanding of the system and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate independence and an ability to think without prompting.
Metrics & Performance Expectations
  • Reduction in the number of recurring issues and/or concerns.
  • Quality of insight into actual results.
  • Quality of support in attaining consolidated financial results.
  • Informal and formal feedback.
  • Consistently, accurately, and efficiently complete close and reconciliations in accordance with respective calendars.
  • Frequency of recurring vs. non‑recurring issues and control deficiencies.
  • Demonstration in presentations of clear understanding of items impacting financial analysis.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 2–6 years of experience with journal entries and account reconciliation.
  • 2–3 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Proficiency with SAP, BPC, BI or similar systems.
  • Broad financial and business acumen.
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement process improvements.
