Wipfli is assisting our client, Action Floor Systems, with the recruitment and selection of a Plant Operations Manager. Action Floor Systems is a leader in sport floor systems and flooring and subfloor manufacturing. Action is known for innovation and customer service with an outstanding brand.
Action Floors is seeking a driven and experienced Plant Operations Manager to lead the manufacturing operations and make a meaningful impact on performance and growth. In this key leadership role, you'll oversee all aspects of plant operations; responsible for safety, quality, and production goals that are consistently achieved while maintaining a high standard of excellence. You'll be accountable for the overall quality of products and play a critical role in building and leading a strong, motivated team.
The ideal candidate brings proven leadership skills, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and familiarity with modern production technologies including automated equipment, scanners, and robotics.
This position is in-person and located in Mercer, Wisconsin. - Lead and oversee all manufacturing operations, ensuring efficient performance and achievement of production, safety, and quality goals
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Continuous Improvement teams to drive productivity, reduce waste, and enhance operational effectiveness
- Develop and manage production schedules, ensuring proper staffing levels and operational coverage
- Foster a positive, respectful work environment and maintain strong communication with supervisors and team members
- Lead, coach, and hold supervisors and staff accountable for performance, development, and results
- Review production metrics and reports to identify trends, improve processes, and support decision-making
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA) and lead safety initiatives, inspections, and incident follow‑up
- Maintain accurate operational documentation, including SOPs and process records
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence by leading through example
- High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training in wood products, design or related area strongly recommended.
- Minimum of five years of similar experience. Some supervisory responsibility experience is important.
- Compose correspondence and reports; perform mathematical and financial calculations; exercise good business judgment in making daily operating decisions with the long-term best interests of the business in mind.
- Interpersonal and verbal communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people, dealing effectively with difficult customers and employees; willingness to assume responsibility and solve problems; ability to maintain confidential and sensitive data relating to customers and employees; technical ability to operate basic office equipment (computer and printer, 10-key calculator, telephone, copier, fax, etc.);
ability to operate manufacturing equipment (forklift, welder, torches, drills, etc.)
Work is performed largely in a pleasant office environment; however, a good deal of time will be spent with the employees in a plant environment and around manufacturing equipment where some exposure to injury exists. Work hours are generally during normal business hours and average at least 45 hours a week. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Occasional out-of-town and overnight business travel is required.
