Overview
Karvo Companies is seeking an experienced Heavy Highway Construction Foreman who has prior experience working on ODOT projects to lead field crews on roadway and infrastructure projects on an upcoming 2-year project on State Route 44 in Lake County, Ohio. This role is responsible for supervising daily operations, coordinating manpower and equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering high-quality work on schedule and within budget.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong field experience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safety, productivity, and teamwork.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of heavy highway construction crews
- Plan and execute work involving earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, drainage, and roadway construction
- Read and interpret project plans, specifications, and schedules
- Assign tasks, manage crew productivity, and monitor quality of work
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and inspectors
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA, company safety policies, and job site safety plans
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce safe work practices
- Schedule and manage equipment, tools, and materials efficiently
- Monitor job progress and report production, issues, and needs to management
- Maintain accurate daily reports, time cards, and job documentation
- Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays
- Train, mentor, and develop crew members
- Minimum 5+ years of heavy highway or civil construction experience, including supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of highway construction methods, materials, and equipment
- Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and grading plans
- Proven leadership and crew management skills
- Strong understanding of job site safety requirements
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus, but not required)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- First Aid / CPR
- DOT or state highway construction certifications
- Equipment operation certifications
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
