Infrastructure Engineering, Inc. (IEI) is looking for great people to join our team! We are seeking a Civil Engineer Inspector to support the Cincinnati, Ohio / Northern Kentucky area. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career civil engineering or inspection construction professional to gain hands‑on experience on a major, long‑term transportation infrastructure program.

The Civil Engineer Inspector works closely with the Resident Engineer and project team to help ensure construction activities conform to applicable standards, safety requirements, plans, specifications, and contract documents. The role is primarily field-based and will support bridge, roadway, ramp, and related infrastructure construction activities from the project/client field office.

What You'll Do
  • Works under the general guidance and direction of a Senior Construction Inspector or a Resident Engineer.
  • Support daily construction inspection activities for bridge, roadway, ramp, and related infrastructure work.
  • Observe construction activities and help verify work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, contract documents, and applicable agency standards.
  • Maintain clear and accurate daily inspection reports, field notes, quantities, photographs, and project records.
  • Assist with tracking installed quantities and documenting construction progress.
  • Support materials testing, verification, and documentation activities as required.
  • Review construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project requirements.
  • Examines quality/workmanship of finished installations for conformity to industry standards.
  • Identify and communicate potential construction issues, discrepancies, quality concerns, or safety concerns to the appropriate project lead.
  • Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into as-built drawings.
  • Participate in project meetings and field coordination activities as assigned.
  • Follow project, client, and OSHA safety requirements at all times.
  • Support additional construction documentation, field verification, and project coordination activities as assigned.
To Be Successful
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Will consider associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with 2+ related years of experience or high school/ GED equivalent with 4+ years of related construction inspection experience.
  • Recent graduates and early-career candidates with an interest in transportation, bridge, roadway, and construction engineering are encouraged to apply.
  • General knowledge of construction practices, transportation infrastructure, and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with ODOT, KYTC, or similar state or municipal transportation agency standards and specifications is preferred.
  • Ability to take and pass required OSHA test and become certified and apply OSHA standards for personal and worker safety practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, project officials, contractors, consultants, and the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Basic knowledge of material testing procedures or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain inspection field and office data.
