Position Summary

The Staff Photographer plays a critical role in capturing high‑quality imagery that elevates the Georgia brand and supports storytelling across social, digital, print, recruiting, communications, marketing, and external platforms. This position will photograph UGA Athletics events, practices, competitions, team activities, content days, and special events across all 21 varsity sports, and serve as a reliable creative partner to internal departments, coaches, student‑athletes, and staff while representing Georgia Athletics with professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in photography, visual journalism, sports creative, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience photographing live sports, events, portraits, and/or studio‑based content.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience photographing live sports, events, portraits, and/or studio‑based content.
  • Experience with digital asset management systems or similar image organization tools.
  • Strong knowledge of camera equipment, lenses, lighting, remote cameras, and photographic techniques.
  • Ability to produce high‑quality imagery in dynamic, low‑light, fast‑moving, and deadline‑driven environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and time management.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, travel, and extended hours during athletic seasons.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative creative team.
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong sports photography, portrait work, editing ability, and visual storytelling.
Physical Demands
  • Stand; walk; use hands; reach with arms.
  • Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Close and distant vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Noise level moderate, increasing to high during practice and athletic competitions.
Duties/Responsibilities Photography & Editing (60%)
  • Photograph UGA Athletics events, practices, competitions, team activities, content days, and special events across all 21 varsity sports.
  • Capture studio portraits, headshots, team photos, recruiting content, feature imagery, and other photography needs as assigned.
  • Edit, organize, caption, archive, and deliver imagery for use by social media, digital, communications, marketing, creative, recruiting, and external operations teams.
  • Manage a consistent post‑production workflow for high‑volume image delivery under tight deadlines.
  • Maintain organized digital asset management practices, including tagging, archiving, and distributing images for departmental use.
  • Assist with studio setup, lighting, equipment preparation, and photography production needs.
Strategy (30%)
  • Collaborate with designers, social media staff, video staff, communications staff, marketing staff, and other creative team members to produce content aligned with Georgia Athletics brand standards.
  • Help plan and execute photography coverage for gamedays, media days, recruiting initiatives, championship events, department campaigns, and special projects.
  • Stay current on photography trends, equipment, editing practices, and visual styles within college athletics, professional sports, and the broader creative industry.
Creative Partnership (10%)
  • Serve as a reliable creative partner to internal departments, coaches, student‑athletes, and staff while representing Georgia Athletics with professionalism.
