Assistant Professor in Ecosystem Ecology

The Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia invites applications for four tenure‑track Assistant Professor positions in Ecosystem Ecology. These 9‑month academic appointments will begin on either August 1, 2026 or August 1, 2027. We seek two candidates with expertise in aquatic ecosystems (freshwater, marine, or wetland) and two with expertise in terrestrial ecosystems. An exceptional candidate may be considered for an Associate Professor appointment.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate ecology courses, including mid‑ and large‑enrollment courses for non‑majors.
  • Develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program.
  • Engage in synergistic collaborations, share instrumentation, and leverage existing strengths within the School of Ecology and with faculty in related units (Forestry, Marine Sciences, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Ecology or a closely related field.
  • A demonstrated record of scholarship, synergistic activities, and the potential to maintain an active, externally funded research program.
  • Expertise in ecosystem ecology, including biogeochemical cycles, land‑atmosphere interactions, pollutant cycling, microbial processes, and ecosystem resilience in the context of global changes.
  • Prior postdoctoral work is preferred.
  • Strong teaching philosophy and experience with active‑learning methods.
