Assistant/Associate Professor – Food Science Extension Specialist

Position in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Georgia. The role focuses on developing a national Extension and research program in food safety, with emphasis on process engineering and product formulation.

• Develop and deliver Extension programs and workshops addressing the needs of Georgia’s food and beverage industries.
• Conduct applied and collaborative research on industry challenges, including thermal and non‑thermal processing, beverage production, fermentation, and packaging.
• Secure extramural funding to sustain research programs.
• Engage with faculty across the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Family and Consumer Sciences, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Provide foundational food safety training such as Preventive Controls and Better Process Control School.
• Serve as a conduit between academia and industry, facilitating scientific and technical innovations.

• Ph.D. in food science, food microbiology, food safety, food engineering, agricultural engineering, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated potential to secure external funding to support Extension and research efforts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven capacity to engage constructively with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary work.

• Experience in the food/beverage industry.
• Expertise in packaging systems, ingredient technology, and regulatory compliance.

• For the rank of Assistant Professor no minimum number of years in a lower rank is required unless the initial appointment was at the instructor level at UGA.
• To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in the Assistant Professor rank before the start date.
• Selected candidates must complete a background investigation demonstrating eligibility for employment with the University of Georgia.

• Use of the office environment, and occasional driving may be required.
