Classroom Teacher – Middle School Science/ Social Studies (Grades 5-8)

Position:
Full-time classroom teacher in the Logan‑Hocking Local School District, Logan, Ohio.

• Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to district philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in the adopted course study.
• Creates purposeful lesson plans that provide effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
• Plans and implements a program of study to meet individual student needs.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
• Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
• Provides progress and interim reports as required and prepares a substitute folder with appropriate information.
• Prescribes purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals, tutors, and volunteers as needed.
• Recognizes learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate.
• Demonstrates strong grasp of subject matter and uses effective oral and written expression.
• Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory, sharing knowledge for continual curriculum improvement.
• Assists with ongoing curriculum revision, including revisions of written courses of study.
• Becomes acquainted with supplemental services beneficial to students as extensions of regular classroom activities.
• Develops classroom behavior rules and techniques in accordance with district guidelines.
• Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Shares responsibility for supervision of students during the school day and when brief absences from assignment are required.
• Upholds board policies, administrative procedures, and school rules, and is supportive of them to the public.
• Adheres to Ohio Department of Education Professional Code of Conduct Standards.
• Communicates positive aspects of school program to public and works cooperatively with parents.
• Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and use of conference and planning time.
• Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
• Cooperates with administration in planning appropriate in‑service training programs.
• Attends staff, department, and committee meetings as required.
• Evaluates student accomplishments using multiple assessment methods and makes adjustments in instructional program as required.
• Maintains confidentiality of student records and information.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the administrator/supervisor.

• Valid Ohio teaching license/certificate.
• Certified as Highly Qualified in the teaching area.
• Preferred:
  Bachelor’s degree.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

9‑Month employee. Salary and work year in accordance with LEA Negotiated Agreement.
