Job Description & How to Apply Below

This is not a professor role — it is a Senior Heavy Equipment Technician who can teach.

The Technical Trainer delivers hands‑on instruction to technicians and students on heavy equipment machines and systems, covering diagnostics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and electronics in both classroom and shop environments.

The ideal candidate brings real field service experience and the ability to explain clearly how machines work. Occasional technical support for Product Support departments may also be required. Some overnight travel is expected, including travel to regional training centers as needed - e.g., to Columbus, Cleveland, etc.

Ideal Candidate Background:

We are looking for experienced heavy equipment professionals with a passion for teaching. Typical backgrounds include:

  • Field Service Technicians transitioning into a training role
  • Senior Shop Technicians with strong diagnostic and instructional ability
  • Current Technical Trainers in the heavy equipment or construction equipment space
  • Military equipment mechanics with hands‑on systems experience
  • Community college heavy equipment instructors seeking an industry‑side role
  • Dealer or OEM background preferred — e.g., Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Komatsu, CASE, Hitachi, or similar
  • Demonstrated ability to teach technical material in both classroom and shop settings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on experience with heavy equipment systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized, self‑motivated, and capable of working independently
  • Ability to develop presentations and design practical lab exercises
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Power Point
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in heavy equipment service and repair; senior‑level experience preferred
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulics, electrical systems, and electronics
  • Teaching or training experience in an industry, vocational, community college, or military setting preferred
  • Formal instructor certification (any discipline) is a plus
  • Willingness to continuously study and learn new technical material as equipment evolves
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical college or continued education a plus
