Media Assistant
Under the direction of the building principal/designee, provides supervision, management, and various clerical and technical duties necessary to accomplish the goals of the library program and to ensure the smooth operation of the media center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist and oversee daily checkouts and book returns.
- Maintain daily records of scheduled classroom visits.
- Oversee the processing of new books and entering them into the computer.
- Assist and encourage students and staff in using media center resources including audio-visual and technology equipment.
- Assist the teaching staff in the delivery of reference skills and computer skills curricula.
- Help students develop habits of independent information access and use.
- Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and make media center materials available to support and enrich the curriculum.
- Evaluate, select, order, and process materials with the assistance of the library committee and approval of the building principal.
- Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new learning materials the media center acquires.
- Maintain the media center automation system.
- Type and process orders, reports, forms, library schedules, and other related records.
- Complete the annual inventory of media center materials, weed obsolete materials from the collection, prepare lists of missing materials and materials to be discarded, and repair damaged books.
- Monitor student conduct during media center visits.
- Maintain the general neatness and attractiveness of the media center and media center displays.
- Maintain current inventory of library supplies and suggest items for acquisition as needed.
- Comply with all FCSC support staff regulations and guidelines.
- Complete effectively other job duties as assigned.
Supervising children as assigned.

Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, and percentages.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems related to job responsibilities. Ability to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to operate personal computer and related software. Ability to work with media equipment such as video, laminating machine, various projectors, typewriters, and printers. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the school community. The employee regularly interacts with students and staff, in addition to meeting multiple requests from several people.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school board policies.

The employee will frequently push, pull, or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds such as boxes of books and AV equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to tell differences among colors.
